I-80 in Placer County reopened after fatal collision

(KTXL) — A fatal collision along westbound I-80 on in Placer County on Saturday has forced a closure of the freeway, according to California Highway Patrol Auburn.

CHP said that all westbound lanes and the number one eastbound lane have been closed and there is not current estimated time of reopening.

At 12:17 p.m., reports came into CHP that a Dodge truck crashed into a bus on eastbound I-80 at Newcastle Road.

The collision caused the truck to hit the center divide, overturn and struck four other vehicles traveling on westbound I-80, according to CHP Auburn.

The driver of the truck was pronounced dead at the scene and their identity is unknown at this time.

Traffic is being diverted to State Route 193 and drivers are being told to expect slowed and/or stopped traffic.
