Police say they arrested a Long Beach man on suspicion of attempted murder following a stabbing Friday night near Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and 10th Street.

Andrew Martinez, 33, is accused of stabbing another man during an argument in the 1000 block of MLK Avenue.

Police were notified of the stabbing at around 10:28 p.m. and responded to the area, the LBPD.

There, officers located the victim suffering from non-life-threatening stab wounds to the upper body, police said. He was transported by Long Beach Fire personnel to a nearby hospital where he was treated for his injuries.

When officers attempted to talk with Martinez, he fled the scene on foot through a nearby alleyway, police said.

Officers eventually located Martinez, but police say he refused to cooperate with commands to surrender, and as a result, they sent a K9 to subdue him.

Martinez suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital, police said. Once he was medically cleared, he was transported to Long Beach City Jail where he was booked for one count each of attempted murder and resisting arrest.

His bail was set at $1 million, police said.
