Drug trafficking suspect arrested with suspected cocaine, weapons: Westlake Police Blotter

WESTLAKE, Ohio –

Drug trafficking: I-90

Officers at 1 p.m. on Jan. 24 stopped a vehicle on I-90 eastbound at the Rocky River line for equipment and license violations and discovered drugs and weapons inside.

The officers noted signs of drug use in the vehicle, and the driver admitted he had a firearm. A loaded handgun was found alongside a baggie of suspected cocaine. A scale, multiple empty small plastic bags, and a cutting agent were confiscated along with a rifle, ammunition, suspected marijuana, and marijuana paraphernalia, according to a department press release.

The 37-year-old driver had a valid permit for carrying a concealed weapon, which was taken as evidence along with the firearms. The Cleveland resident was arrested and charged with felony drug trafficking. When the case is presented to a Cuyahoga County grand jury, prosecutors are expected to ask that gun specifications be added, according to a police department statement.

Arson: Detroit Road

Westlake police at 3 p.m. on Jan. 20 arrested an employee of the McDonald’s restaurant at Detroit and Columbia roads on a felony arson charge stemming from incidents at the restaurant.

The 51-year-old Cleveland resident was taken to the Cuyahoga County Jail on a $50,000 bond.

The police department at 5:30 a.m. on Jan. 20 learned of a fire at the McDonalds. The Westlake Fire Department told police that it was the second fire at the restaurant in as many days. Investigators reviewed surveillance video and discovered that an employee appeared to intentionally set both fires, according to a police department press release. The fires were adjacent to a natural gas-fired hot water tank. The building sustained cosmetic damage.

Officers arrested the male suspect at the McDonald’s restaurant when he showed up for work.

Disorderly conduct: Canterbury Road

The police department at 12:30 a.m. on Jan. 21 received a 911 call in which only yelling could be heard in the background. No one spoke with the dispatcher.

The call came from the Time Warp Bar on Canterbury and officers were dispatched. Upon calling the bar, dispatchers learned that the staff there were dealing with an intoxicated patron who was arguing and throwing items. The staff was physically struggling with the suspect.

Officers took a 26-year-old Cleveland man into custody. The man resisted the officers before being restrained. The suspect was taken to the Westlake jail and was charged with disorderly conduct while intoxicated and resisting arrest. One officer reported a minor injury.

Trapped raccoon freed: Crossings Parkway

An employee of the Crossings Village apartments at 1:15 p.m. on Jan. 21 called the police department to report that a cat or kitten was stuck in a dumpster on the property. An officer discovered a raccoon inside the dumpster. The officer placed e a board inside to allow the animal to safely escape.
