He played Gareth, the goblin king, with child star Toby Froud taking on the role of the baby.

The basic plot of the movie, directed by Jim Henson, is that 13-year-old Sarah (played by Jennifer Connelly) brashly wishes for her baby brother, played by Toby, to be taken away by the goblins who are in the book she is reading called the Labyrinth.

The Goblin King comes out the books and fulfils this wish.

Realising this is a big mistake, she tries to get her brother back but in order to do this, Jareth gives her 13 hours to complete his labyrinth first.

Meanwhile, Toby landed the role of Sarah Williams' half-brother, also named Toby, because he was already familiar with the legion of goblin puppets on set.

His father, Brian, was the flick's conceptual designer so the mythical creatures didn't come as as much of a shock to one-year-old Toby.

One of the film's most iconic moments sees Bowie's character Jareth sing the song Magic Dance to his minions in his lair while counting down the hours until he can keep the stolen baby for good.

In an interview with the Huffington Post, Toby said: “I think I’ve had [You remind me of the babe] shouted at me more times than I can remember.

"It’s very funny to sort of be in a world where everyone seems to know me even though I was a baby.

“Even to this day, there are still people that will name me. [I say,] ‘I am Toby,’ and they go, ‘Wait, you’re the Toby? You’re the Toby; aren’t you?’"

In the years since, Toby, now 37, has worked on some huge Hollywood films including The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and Cowboys & Aliens.

He also works as a puppet sculptor and has worked on Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio and also Dark Crystal.
