BREAKING: Kyrie Irving's Updated Injury Status For Wizards-Nets Game

Kyrie Irving has been ruled out for Saturday's game.

On Saturday evening, the Brooklyn Nets are hosting the Washington Wizards at Barclays Center in New York.

All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving was initially not on the injury report for the contest, but less than five hours before the game, he has now been ruled out (per the 1:30 injury report).

On Friday, the NBA world was shocked when Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium reported that the superstar guard had requested a trade from the organization.

Saturday is the first time the Nets will play since the massive report, so it makes sense why Irving would be ruled out.

This is the biggest story in the NBA right now and could have been a major distraction if he were to have played.

The Nets have been doing exceptionally well over the last few months and are 31-20 in 51 games (which has them as the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference).

Irving is in his fourth season playing with the Nets, and they have only won just one playoff series during that span.

That said, this season appeared to be the year they were going to make a deep run (one of the reasons why the trade request was so stunning).

Over the last eight games, Irving has scored 30+ points six times, and he has averages of 27.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 5.3 assists per contest.

Meanwhile, the Wizards are tied with the Chicago Bulls for the ninth seed in the east and have a 24-27 record in 51 games.
