Elderly woman dies at hospital after South Austin house fire

Austin fire crews rescued a 92-year-old woman from a house fire in South Austin, but she died from her injuries at the hospital.

A 92-year-old woman has died at the hospital after a house fire in South Austin Saturday, says the Austin Fire Department.

Austin fire and EMS crews responded to the fire on Parkdale Place, off Clawson Road, where fire crews rescued one person from the home. AFD says crews made an "aggressive interior search under difficult conditions" to find her and get her out.

Medics transported the woman with critical life-threatening injuries to St. David's South Austin Medical Center where AFD says she was pronounced dead.

ATCEMS says its medics transported another adult to St. David's South Austin Medical Center with non-life-threatening medical complaints and another person refused transport on scene. However, those two were not directly related to the fire.

AFD says an investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
