One of two individuals suspected to have been involved in a fatal stabbing that occurred at a Salt Lake City apartment complex was taken into custody Saturday.
Officials with the Salt Lake City Police Department said that 26-year-old Ivy Chase Grant is facing an obstruction of justice charge in relation to the murder of 34-year-old Charles Alires that took place at the Palmer Court Apartments Thursday afternoon.
Authorities reported that Grant was located at a residence near 300 East Kingston Avenue on Saturday by members of the SLCPD SWAT Team, Violent Criminal Apprehension Team and Homicide Squad. Police records noted that officers detained Grant without issue.
Members of SLCPD's Crime Lab and detectives also responded to the scene to gather evidence.
Law enforcement officials stated that the second suspect in the case, 43-year-old Taddy Avalon Jackman, remains at large. Detective have decided to move forward with the investigation by requesting public assistance in locating Jackman.
While Salt Lake police have warned residents of the community to refrain from approaching Jackman, they ask that anyone with information on the suspect's recent activities and location call (801) 799-3000.
This investigation began shortly before 4 p.m. Thursday when officers received a report of a stabbing at the Palmer Court Apartments, located at 999 South Main Street.
Officers arrived on scene and reportedly found Alires in critical condition.
While medical personnel responded to assist and life-saving efforts were performed, Alires died on the scene.
Detectives have concluded this stabbing as being an isolated incident, noting that they believe Grant has been lying about his involvement in the altercation that led to the death of Alires.
