The National Hockey League has been all over the world since the since first playing games outside of North America in the late 1930's. They've played games in Asia, Europe and even a pre-season game in Puerto Rico, but now, they'll be heading Down Under.

According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, the National Hockey League will reportedly be starting the 2023-24 season in Australia. While logistics are still being worked out, Pagnotta added that two of the teams in the mix to appear in the games are the Boston Bruins and Los Angeles Kings.

Australia is no stranger to hockey and hosting NHL games would be a massive boost to grow the game in the nation. Back in 2000, the Australian Ice Hockey League was formed and currently has eight teams that play a 20 game regular season, with the top-four making the playoffs.

On the international stage, Australia sits 36th in the IIHF World Rankings on the men's side and are set to compete in the World Championship in 2023 for the first time since 2019. On the women's side, Australia are ranked 33rd by the IIHF.
