Rose Rock Microcreamery celebrated National Ice Cream for Breakfast Day with a special event on Saturday.
From 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., ice cream lovers gathered at the shop's Rose District location in Broken Arrow at 115 North Main Street.
Pancake sundaes were available for just $6 along with regular menu items.
Breakfast sundaes were customizable and made with any of the shop's available flavors topped with caramel, chocolate, whipped cream, and a cherry.
Rose Rock says vegan pancakes and vegan ice cream were also available upon request.
Guests will had the chance to win prizes, such as ice cream sandwiches for a class of students, $20 Rose Rock Microcreamery gift cards, shirts, and more.
Rose Rock says this national day was originally created in the 1960s by housewife Florence Rappaport from New York.
It came from one random day in February when her six children were cold and bored while snowed in at home.
As a social worker and mom, Rappaport knew she had to come up with something to entertain the children.
As she herself explained years later, “It was cold and snowy and the kids were complaining that it was too cold to do anything. So I just said, ‘Let’s have ice cream for breakfast.’”
Rappaport's grandchildren did much traveling to spread the news of the holiday and now National Ice Cream for Breakfast Day is celebrated across multiple countries, according to daysoftheyear.com.
