John Overton Meadows was born on Nov. 6, 1948 and went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the age of 74 on Jan. 30, 2023. He was born to Rufus and Mary Meadows in Mount Pleasant, Texas.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Glenna Meadows, son Mark Meadows and wife Kaytlin Meadows. Grandkids Ashley Burney and husband Zach Burney, Brandi Riley and husband David Riley, Kelsea Meadows, Asa Meadows, and Parker Meadows; and great -grandkids Nick Burney, Avery Burney, Kinleigh Riley, Hadley Riley, Hayden Riley, and Lucy Riley.
Upon graduation he enlisted into the United States Navy, where he served for two years as a yeoman on the USS Ticonderoga.
John was a beloved member of the community and served as a deacon at the First Baptist Church of Mount Pleasant.
Since retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family and golfing with the guys. He was always the life of the party, never met a stranger and his family often joked about him being the mayor of any vacation spot they visited.
John was proceeded in death by his parents, Rufus and Mary Meadows, and brother, Grady Frank Meadows.
Services for John Overton Meadows will be held on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2023, at The First Baptist Church Mount Pleasant, Texas.
Visitation will be at 1 p.m. followed by the service at 2 pm.
