MINOT, N.D. (KMOT) - UPDATE (6 p.m.): Patrons called ‘heroes’ for coming to aid of shooting victims at Minot bar

UPDATE (11 a.m.): The Dakota Lounge announced on social media they would remain closed Saturday, Feb. 4 due to the overnight shooting incident.

Here is their full statement: “Due to an isolated shooting that occurred at the Dak last night we are going to close Saturday, Feb 4th to give our employees time to regroup. It was a very scary situation but our employees handled it the best way they could. We will open normal hours on Sunday. We appreciate all of you and will do our best to make everyone feel safe again.”

UPDATE (4:30 a.m.): Minot Police said two people were taken to the hospital for what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries in a shooting at the Dakota Lounge shortly after midnight.

Police said they took 39-year-old Theophris Drake into custody, on charges of Aggravated Assault, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, and Terrorizing. He remains in custody pending a court appearance.

Police said they would release more information later Saturday.

UPDATE (3 a.m.): Minot Police told Your News Leader that the shooting at the Dakota Lounge was an isolated incident, and they detained the suspected shooter. We will update this story as we learn more.

ORIGINAL STORY (2 a.m.): Minot Police responded to a shooting at the Dakota Lounge bar in Minot.

Minot Police Chief John Klug confirmed that police had responded to a shooting at the southwest Minot bar, but could not release further information.

Details are limited, including the condition of anyone injured, and if anyone is in custody.

When our reporter was on scene shortly after 1:30 a.m., the inside of the bar appeared empty, and Minot Police had cordoned off part of the parking lot with police tape.

A witness told Your News Leader the incident occurred shortly after midnight, though an exact timeline of events is unclear.
