La Salle, FSHA, Maranatha Win League Games

The La Salle College Preparatory varsity girls’ basketball team posted its fifth consecutive victory by defeating visiting St. Paul High of Santa Fe Springs, 47-44, in a Del Rey League game last Thursday.
Junior Audrey Chen posted a double-double with 15 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three steals while freshman Casey Higgins poured in 15 points with nine boards, two blocks, two assists and one steal. Senior Reese Wong registered seven points, two assists, one block and one rebound while sophomore Kaden Cortes tallied five points, three boards and one steal. Senior Ellie Chen finished with three points, two rebounds and one assist, freshman Julianne Tan scored two points with one board, and junior Avery Ward had two rebounds and one assist.
The Lancers edged host St. Anthony High in Long Beach in overtime, 63-62, in a league matchup last Tuesday as Audrey Chen amassed 27 points, five boards, two steals and two assists. Higgins racked up 12 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals while Ellie Chen poured in 10 points with four boards. Wong registered seven points, four assists, three rebounds and one block, Cortes tallied four points, two boards and one assist, and Ward finished with three points and 11 rebounds. Tan collected two boards and one assist while junior Aubrey Ramos had one rebound.
La Salle recently crushed visiting Serra High of Gardena, 52-20, as Higgins recorded eight points, seven boards and five steals. Audrey Chen tallied seven points, five assists, four rebounds and two blocks, Ellie Chen posted seven points, two boards, two assists and one steal, and Cortes scored seven points with three steals and one rebound. Wong registered six points, four assists, three steals and one board, Tan finished with six points, five steals and one rebound, and Ramos produced five points and two boards. Ward scored four points with three rebounds, two steals and one block while senior Meghan Christensen had two points and two boards. Freshman Aliyah Casas had five boards and one steal, senior Lauren Cardenas collected two rebounds and one steal, and freshman Catherine De Los Reyes notched one steal.
The Lancers previously edged host Bishop Montgomery High in Torrance in a league game, 44-43, as Cortes poured in 11 points with two rebounds and two assists. Audrey Chen registered nine points, eight boards, two assists and one steal while Wong tallied nine points, four steals, three rebounds and two assists. Tan finished with five points, three boards, two steals and one assist, Higgins recorded four points, 11 rebounds and one steal, and Ellie Chen scored four points with two assists and one board. Meanwhile, Ward had two points, four rebounds, one steal and one assist.
La Salle (21-2 overall, 4-1 in league) will host Bishop Montgomery High of Torrance in a crucial league rematch tonight at 7 p.m. as both teams are tied for first place in the standings. The Lancers will visit Serra on Tuesday, Jan. 31, before hosting St. Anthony for their league finale on Thursday, Feb. 2. La Salle’s regular-season finale is a nonleague game scheduled against visiting Rolling Hills Prep of San Pedro on Saturday, Feb. 4.

FLINTRIDGE SACRED HEART

Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy sophomore Ava Nawrocki amassed 25 points and seven rebounds to help the Tologs defeat Notre Dame Academy in an Angelus League game last week.

The Tologs earned their fifth straight victory by defeating visiting Sacred Heart of Jesus of Los Angeles, 57-21, in a nonleague game on Saturday.
Sophomore Ava Nawrocki racked up 18 points, nine steals, three rebounds and three assists while senior captain Sophia Heredia registered nine points, 12 boards, nine assists, seven steals and one block. Sophomore Sophia Astacaan scored eight points with 10 rebounds, freshman Bella Hagobian tallied eight points, three assists, two steals and two boards, and junior Isabelle Risha recorded six points, 11 rebounds and three steals. Freshman Grace Adair produced four points, four boards, two steals and one block while senior Cassie Huston posted four points, two rebounds and one steal. Freshman Lori Yacoubian finished with five boards, one steal and one assist, senior Siena Urquiza collected four rebounds, and junior Sophia Durand had one board and one assist.
FSHA routed host Marymount High in Los Angeles, 62-22, in an Angelus League game last Thursday. Senior Meghan Garrity racked up 15 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals while Astacaan poured in 10 points with seven boards. Nawrocki registered nine points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals, Heredia tallied eight points, six boards, two steals and two assists, and Risha finished with six points, seven rebounds and three steals. Yacoubian recorded five points, three boards, one steal and one assist, senior Ella Rogers scored four points with five rebounds, and Huston produced four points, one steal and one board. Hagobian posted three points, two rebounds, two steals and one assist, Durand collected two assists and one board, and Adair had three rebounds.
Flintridge Sacred Heart picked up a 53-40 league victory at Notre Dame Academy in Los Angeles last Tuesday as Nawrocki amassed 25 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals. Garrity recorded seven points, five boards and four steals while Astacaan tallied six points, seven rebounds and three steals. Rogers collected four boards, Hagobian posted two rebounds and Yacoubian had one assist.
FSHA previously beat visiting Blair High of Pasadena, 68-41, in a nonleague game as Garrity racked up 17 points, six boards, four steals and four assists. Heredia poured in 11 points with six rebounds, five steals and four assists, Nawrocki registered 10 points, seven boards, seven assists and three steals, and Astacaan produced eight points, 14 rebounds and two steals. Risha tallied six points, 10 boards and one assist, Yacoubian finished with six points, two rebounds and one steal, and Hagobian scored six points with one steal. Huston posted three points and four boards while Urquiza had one point.
The second-place Tologs (13-10 overall, 3-1 in league) will host fifth-place Marymount on Friday, Jan. 27, at 6 p.m. Flintridge Sacred Heart will visit Immaculate Heart High in Los Angeles for a rematch on Tuesday, Jan. 31, before hosting Notre Dame Academy of Los Angeles for their regular-season finale on Thursday, Feb. 2, at 6 p.m.

MARANATHA

Maranatha High School sophomore Anna Khourian scored three points with one rebound to help the Minutemen defeat Valley Christian High in an Olympic League game last week.

The Minutemen snapped a seven-game losing streak by defeating host Valley Christian High in Cerritos, 42-19, in an Olympic League game as sophomore Lara Kasbarian racked up 21 points, three steals, three assists and two rebounds.
Sophomore Charlotte Yee registered eight points, two rebounds and one assist, sophomore Lori Derderian tallied six points, two steals, two assists, one block and one rebound, and sophomore Aleen Avanessian recorded four points, six rebounds, one block and one assist. Sophomore Anna Khourian scored three points with one rebound while sophomore Kayla Sartin collected 18 rebounds, two steals, one block and one assist. Freshman Presley Tanaka posted two assists while freshman Clair Timour had one assist.
Maranatha lost a league matchup at Heritage Christian High in Northridge, 40-31, last Tuesday as Kasbarian poured in 13 points with five rebounds and two steals. Tanaka tallied five points, two rebounds and one block, Avanessian finished with four points, 10 rebounds and three blocks, and Sartin scored three points with 13 rebounds. Yee produced three points and one rebound while Derderian recorded two points, two steals, two rebounds and two assists. Junior Danielle Babikian posted one point, one steal and one rebound while Khourian had one rebound.
The Minutemen dropped a nonleague game against Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary of Montebello, 45-31, last Monday. Kasbarian registered eight points, five rebounds, four assists, two steals and one block, Tanaka tallied six points, two rebounds and one steal, and Sartin recorded six points, 14 rebounds, two blocks and one steal. Derderian produced five points, two steals, two rebounds, two assists and one block while Yee finished with five points and three rebounds. Babikian scored one point with one block and one rebound, Avanessian collected four rebounds, two blocks and two steals, and Timour posted one assist.
Maranatha recently lost a nonleague game against Millikan High of Long Beach, 51-39, as Kasbarian amassed 32 points, three steals, two rebounds and one block. Derderian finished with four points, three assists and one steal, Yee scored two points with two steals, one rebound and one assist, and Avanessian had one point, three rebounds, one block and one steal. Sartin posted 10 rebounds, one steal and one assist while Tanaka collected two steals, one rebound and one assist.
The Minutemen previously lost a league game at Whittier Christian High in La Habra, 43-37. Kasbarian poured in 15 points with three steals, two assists and one rebound, Derderian registered nine points, five assists, one steal and one rebound, and Avanessian tallied eight points, two rebounds, one steal and one assist. Sartin recorded two points and five rebounds, Tanaka produced two points, two assists and two rebounds, and Yee finished with one point and one rebound.
Fourth-place Maranatha (6-16 overall, 1-4 in league) will host second-place Heritage Christian High of Northridge today at 5:30 p.m. The Minutemen will host Rolling Hills Prep of San Pedro on Monday, Jan. 30, at Shalhevet High of Los Angeles on Wednesday, Feb. 1, for a pair of nonleague games before hosting Whittier Christian in their regular-season finale on Thursday, Feb. 2.

WESTRIDGE

Westridge School sophomore Jaedyn Tsang helped the Tigers defeat Mayfield Senior in a Prep League game last week.

The Tigers defeated visiting Mayfield Senior, 40-31, in a Prep League game last Tuesday.
Freshman Isabel De Leon racked up 16 points while junior Sarah Kong poured in 11 points. Senior Jaime Riechmann scored five points, sophomore Ariana Epstein tallied four points and sophomore Jaedyn Tsang and freshman Angela Li each had two points.
Westridge recently dropped a league game to visiting Polytechnic, 48-26. Epstein scored nine points, Kong recorded five points, Tsang, Isabel De Leon and Riechmann each finished with four points, and sophomore Lauren Lauderdale had two points.
The Tigers previously lost a pair of road league games at Palos Verdes Chadwick, 53-38, and Rio Hondo Prep in Arcadia, 59-26. Individual statistics were not reported to the Pasadena Outlook.
Westridge (2-11 overall, 1-7 in league) will host first-place Flintridge Prep in a league rematch today at 5 p.m. The Tigers will host Chadwick for a league game on Tuesday, Jan. 31, before visiting Mayfield Senior for their regular season finale on Thursday, Feb. 2.

MAYFIELD SENIOR

Mayfield Senior School’s Mia Aguilar scored four points during a Prep League game against Flintridge Prep last week.

The Cubs lost their ninth consecutive game after falling to visiting Rio Hondo Prep of Arcadia, 55-26, in a Prep League encounter last Friday as junior Maia Mashiko poured in 11 points.
Sophomore Kristen Awakuni scored seven points, sophomore Christine Ellis recorded six points and junior Erin Michelena had two points.
Mayfield lost to visiting Flintridge Prep, 79-27, in a league game last Thursday. Sophomore Jenna Domingo registered seven points while Maia Mashiko and Ellis each tallied six points. Junior Mia Aguilar produced four points while senior Yasmeen Elrabat and Michelena each had two points.
The Cubs lost a league matchup at Westridge School, 40-31, last Tuesday as junior Annika Mashiko poured in 11 points. Awakuni recorded eight points while Ellis scored six points. Junior Maddie Domingo finished with three points, Aguilar tallied two points and Maia Mashiko had one point.
