Classes for applicators, gardeners await

Posted

On Feb. 13 there will be a PARP at the 4-H Building on the Montgomery County Fairgrounds from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. in Crawfordsville.

No reservation is necessary. It is a joint PARP with Fountain County. Commercial CCH and RT credits are available for Category 1 and Category 14.

It is very important for applicators to attend these events not only to stay up on their licenses but to learn about the new regulations and laws that have taken effect Jan. 1.

Who are the Master Gardeners?

I have been in this position for almost a year now, and I have barely mentioned the Extension Master Gardener Program or the Montgomery County Master Gardener Association and all the good they do in our community. Which is certainly a failing on my part. They work at the community garden, at schools and raise food for the FISH Food Pantry.

If you are unfamiliar with the EMG program, you may not know that Purdue recognizes the amount of volunteer work and continued education that your local Master Gardeners do to keep teaching and encouraging horticulture in our communities. Purdue recognizes such members with badges for their experience and commitment to their communities and their volunteer work.

Since March 2022, these members have earned a new badge for their commitment to our community:

• Sheri Bethard – certified EMG – 40 hours volunteering – 40 hours of education

• Lana Presslor – advanced EMG – 65 hours volunteering – 50 hours of education

• Denise Ducharme – advanced EMG – 65 hours volunteering – 50 hours of education

• Ellen Ball – advanced EMG – 65 hours volunteering – 50 hours of education

• Nancy Bowes – advanced EMG bronze – 200 hours volunteering – 60 hours of education

So if you see these individuals out and about, be sure to congratulate them for their hard work.

Don’t forget to check out the propagation class they are hosting 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday at Fusion 54, 101 W. Main St. This is just the first of many public education events and projects the Association is planning on hosting in 2023.
