Fabio Fognini recently spoke about Novak Djokovic and his place in the tennis world, following his 10th Australian Open triumph.
In an interview with Corriere dello Sport, Fognini acknowledged that Djokovic is the strongest player on the tour, backed up by the numbers and his accomplishments. However, Fognini also mentioned that Djokovic is the least loved among the "big 3" players, which includes Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.
"Nole is the strongest and the numbers prove it, but he is also the least loved of the big 3. It is difficult to find a suitable adjective for him. Last year he did not play two Slams and four Masters 1000, but still managed to qualify for the ATP Finals."
According to Fognini, it is difficult to find a suitable adjective for Djokovic, who despite missing two Grand Slams and four Masters 1000 events last year, still managed to qualify for the ATP Finals.
Fognini says that Djokovic's determination and ability to bounce back after a difficult year are what sets him apart. After the controversy that surrounded him during the Australian Open last year, Djokovic made his mark by dominating the tour and writing the history of the sport once again.
"After everything that happened last year in Melbourne, Nole came back and made his mark. He, Roger and Rafa monopolized the circuit and wrote the history of this sport."
