'A big impact': Blue Springs second graders write Valentine's Day cards to residents at senior living center
OPENING DAY, NO WORD IF THEY WILL BE WORN LATER IN THE SEASON. SECOND GRADERS IN BLUE SPRINGS ARE HELPING SPREAD LOVE AROUND TOWN AHEAD OF VALENTINE’S DAY. WE WERE THERE AS THEY SIGNED THE VALENTINES AND DELIVERED THEM. PEYTON: INSIDE OF THE SECOND-GRADE CLASS, IT IS CRAFT TIME. >> I DREW A HEART ON THIS ONE. PEYTON: THIS FRIDAY, IT IS ALL ABOUT LOVE. THEY ARE MAKING CARDS FOR VALENTINE’S DAY. >> I SAID, "HAPPY VALENTINES DAY, I HOPE YOU HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY. I LOVE YOU SO SO SO SO SO MUCH." >> IT SAYS, "HAPPY VALENTINES DAY. ARE YOU HAVING A GOOD DAY? I AM." PEYTON: THE CARDS AREN’T FOR ANYONE IN THEIR CLASS. THEY’RE FOR PEOPLE A LITTLE BIT OLDER THAN SECOND GRADE. >> THEY ALL LOOK SO GOOD. PEYTON: THE LETTERS ARE FOR SENIORS AT CEDARHURST OF BLUE SPRINGS. >> JUST FOR THEM TO GET AN EXTRA SMILE ON THEIR FACE IS JUST OUR GOAL. PEYTON: LEXI WILEY POSTED ON FACEBOOK ASKING THE COMMUNITY TO SEND VALENTINES TO THEIR RESIDENTS. >> WE GOT CARDS FROM ALL OVER THE PLACE. THE COMMUNITY STEPPED UP. >> IT HAS A REALLY BIG IMPACT ON OUR RESIDENTS, SPECIFICALLY BECAUSE SOME OF THEM ARE LONELY DURING HOLIDAYS AND SOME HAVE LOST THEIR LOVED ONES. In Blue Springs, second graders are helping spread love around town ahead of Valentine’s Day. Mrs. Warren’s second-grade class at William Yates Elementary School did not focus on classroom work on this Friday. Instead, it was all about love for seniors at Cedarhurst of Blue Springs. Alexus Wily posted on Facebook, requesting the community to send Valentine’s to their residents. "We got cards from all over the place,” she said.
