PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) — A teen boy was shot, and a child is hurt after a drive-by shooting in central Phoenix on Friday evening.

Around 4:40 p.m. on Friday, Phoenix police responded to several reports of a shooting near 1st Avenue and Thomas Road. Officers found one teen boy with a gunshot wound who was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. A young girl was also found with a gunshot wound and was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators say a car with multiple people inside was passing through a parking lot near 1st Avenue and Thomas Road when people inside started shooting at another car. That’s when the teen boy was injured, and the other car sped away before officers arrived. The young girl was walking nearby with an adult family member when she was shot. The scene spread across four blocks, Phoenix police say, and several businesses in the area were hit by gunfire.

No one else was injured in the area. Investigators are asking the public to call Phoenix Police Department or Silent Witness to share any information about the incident.
