The Big Bang Theory star Melissa Rauch's new show Night Court has been officially renewed for a second season.

Featuring Rauch as judge Abby Stone – who presides over the nocturnal shenanigans at a Manhattan arraignment court – the NBC sitcom is only four episodes into its first season after premiering last month.

Via Deadline, the premiere was the biggest for a comedy since ABC's The Conners in 2018 and the biggest for a comedy on since Will & Grace's revival in 2017.

Addressing Night Court's success, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming's president of scripted content Lisa Katz shared in a statement: "It's so rewarding to have audiences respond and return to a show in which they have such incredibly warm feelings, and, more broadly, it's testament to how broadcast is still a huge driver of communal viewing.

"A huge thank you to our studio partners, a wonderful cast, incredibly talented writers and producers, and a crew that has transformed a lower Manhattan courtroom into a true family."

Also celebrating this season 2 news was Channing Dungey, chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Television Group.

"The verdict is in and the 'new-boot' of Night Court is a hit! The series' razor-sharp humour makes the show a weekly must-watch," she said. "We're overjoyed that court will remain in session and return with new cases for season 2.

"We're so grateful to our colleagues at NBC, to the richly talented creative team led by Melissa Rauch, Winston Rauch, Dan Rubin, and John Larroquette, and to the stellar ensemble cast.”

Night Court airs on NBC in the US, while you can now buy the complete Big Bang Theory boxset on DVD and Blu-ray.
