Vikings Safety Lewis Cine Continues to Show Progress in Recovery From Leg Injury

Vikings safety Lewis Cine continues to show progress in his recovery from a severe leg injury that ended his rookie season prematurely.

Cine, the Vikings' first-round draft pick out of Georgia, suffered a compound fracture of his left leg while playing on special teams during the Week 4 game in London. A compound fracture is a gruesome injury in which the skin breaks near the broken bone. Cine underwent multiple surgical procedures and remained in London for a few days afterwards before returning to Minnesota to embark a long rehab process.

Less than a month later, Cine was spotted walking without assistance.

It's now been four months since Cine's injury, and he's been able to work out and strengthen his leg as he aims to be ready for the 2023 season. He's shared several workout pictures on social media over the last month or so, and on Friday, he posted a video that displays some of the progress he's made.

If Cine can make a full recovery and be the same player he was before the injury, that would be a huge development for the Vikings. They traded back 20 spots in last year's draft and selected him at No. 32 overall, believing his athleticism, ball skills, and ability to read and diagnose plays quickly made him a great fit in their defense. Depending on Cine's recovery and what happens with Harrison Smith this offseason, there's a chance he could be a starter in year two.
