Commanders Coach Scott Turner Hired by Raiders; What's His Role?

Recently ousted Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Scott Turner is no longer in the unemployment line.

According to NFL Network, Turner is joining the Las Vegas Raiders as an assistant on Josh McDaniels' staff. He's expected to have an "elevated pass-game role" with the Raiders.

With the Raiders expected to move on from quarterback Derek Carr after nine seasons, Las Vegas might look towards the draft class to find its signal caller of the future. And Turner is expected to help develop whichever new face walks into the Raiders building this year.

Turner, a reserve member of the UNLV football team in the early 2000s, spent three years as the Commanders offensive coordinator, but struggled to bring the unit towards the top of the league during his tenure. That being said, he has over a decade of experience coaching in the NFL. Before he found his way to Washington, Turner was an assistant for the Carolina Panthers, Cleveland Browns and Minnesota Vikings and should bring a strong level of expertise to Las Vegas.

His father, Norv, coached in Washington from 1994-00 and also went on to lead the Oakland Raiders from 2004-05 and San Diego Chargers from 2007-12.

Now, it appears his son is following in his footsteps once more.
