UVA's Dontayvion Wicks Voted Practice Player of the Week at Reese's Senior Bowl

Wicks was selected the American team's WR Practice Player-of-Week by a vote of the team's defensive backs

Virginia wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks is already making the most of his first opportunity to impress NFL scouts as he put on a show this week in the practices leading up to the Reese's Senior Bowl this Saturday in Mobile, Alabama. On Friday, it was announced that Wicks had been selected as the American team's Wide Receiver Practice Player-of-Week, as voted on by the defensive backs on the American who had the challenge of trying to guard Wicks all week.

The defensive backs on the America team roster for the Reese's Senior Bowl include Alabama's DeMarcco Hellams, Georgia's Christopher Smith II, Florida State's Jammie Robinson, LSU's Jay Ward, Miami's Tyrique Stevenson, and Virginia's own Anthony Johnson. That talented group of defensive backs, many of whom have a bright future ahead of them in the NFL, chose Dontayvion Wicks as the top-performing wide receiver they faced in practice this week. Wicks was chosen from a dynamic group of receivers that includes TCU's Derius Davis, Iowa State's Xavier Hutchinson, and Ole Miss's Jonathan Mingo. When you see some of the eye-popping plays Dontayvion Wicks made in practice this week, the the result of the vote certainly makes sense.

It should also be noted that both Dontayvion Wicks and Anthony Johnson both chose to honor their fallen teammates by wearing their jersey numbers in practice this week. Wicks wore No. 1 for Lavel Davis Jr. and Johnson wore No. 41 for D'Sean Perry. Davis, Perry, and Devin Chandler were tragically killed in a shooting at UVA in November.

Dontayvion Wicks and Anthony Johnson will look to continue to impress NFL scouts during the Reese's Senior Bowl this Saturday at 12:30pm ET in Mobile, Alabama. The game will be televised on the NFL Network.
