Detectives were able to safely remove three sticks of dynamite from a Salt Lake City residence Wednesday after they said the homeowner came across them while cleaning out his attic.
Representatives of the Salt Lake City Police Department reported that this investigation began February 1 shortly before 10 p.m. when officers received a call from a man who reported that he found three old sticks of dynamite while cleaning out the attic of his home located near 200 South Iowa Street.
According to police records, responding officers were notified that the man had transferred the dynamite to an outside freezer while they were en route to the scene.
Upon arrival, Salt Lake police said they temporarily secured the area and blocked off the street in order to ensure the safety of the community.

Authorities noted that the agency's Hazardous Devices Unit was called onto the scene, as requested by the SLCPD on-duty watch commander.
Detectives with the HDU team reportedly took the dynamite into their possession without issue and will be investigating the situation further.
