In Scranton, area residents whose household income is less than $60,000 can receive free assistance in filing their taxes.
Accounting students from the University of Scranton through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, are hosting a walk-in service on a first-come first-served basis.
Students prepare the tax documents, while a program coordinator reviews each before final submission.
“They learn quick, it is a vertical learning curve the first couple of days because most of them have never done anything like this before. They may have had a class, but it is not the same” says Joseph Hammond, VITA program coordinator at the University of Scranton.
The program has students that range from juniors all the way to graduate students.
The service is offered from now until April 5th.
