ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV) - A suspected Chinese surveillance balloon has been spotted moving across Missouri, and has been spotted by the Gateway Arch Friday.

Sightings of the balloon have been reported over Kansas City and Columbia earlier in the day.

Gov. Parson referenced the balloon in a Tweet stating he has received no contact from the Biden Administration concerning the balloon.

Sen. Hawley expressed the balloon should be shot down.

Sen. Schmitt also expressed that something should be done about the balloon stating, “Take it down.”

Saturday the balloon was downed off the coast of the Carolinas.

Following the downing of the balloon, Sen. Schmitt issued a statement saying, “The takedown was way too late, and the damage has clearly been done.”

Schmitt has called for an investigation into the situation, writing a letter to the Biden Administration and Secretary of Defense for answers.

“I will continue to push for more information – the American people deserve answers,” said Schmitt.
