'The Order': Jude Law & Nicholas Hoult To Star In Justin Kurzel's Upcoming True Crime Film

Australian director Justin Kurzel is no stranger to true crime after 2011’s “Snowtown,” 2019’s “True History Of The Kelly Gang,” and his most recent film, “Nitram.” Deadline reports Kurzel returns to the genre again for his next project, “The Order,” with Jude Law and Nicholas Hoult to star.

Based on Kevin Flynn and Gary Gerhardt‘s book “The Silent Brotherhood,” “The Order” will follow the real-life white supremacist group and their string of domestic terrorist acts in the 1980s Pacific Northwest. Law will play the Idaho FBI agent who pieced together the spree’s pattern, while Hoult plays the group’s charismatic leader. This material sounds right up Kurzel’s alley: another moody crime thriller for him to sink his teeth into.

Production of the film starts this spring in Alberta, Canada. No news on who joins Law and Noult yet on the cast list, but “King Richard” scribe Zach Baylin pens the film’s script.  AGC Studios finances, produces and sells the project with Brian Haas of Chasing Epic Pictures and Law’s Riff Raff Entertainment. Kurzel, Baylin, Ben JacksonStephen FussKate SusmanJeremy Saulnier, and Zach Garett also serve as executive producers.

Law’s next role will be as Captain Hook in David Lowery‘s upcoming “Peter Pan & Wendy” for Disney+. he also plays King Henry VIII in the historical thriller “Firebrand” alongside Alicia Vikander as Queen Catherine Parr. Law has another Disney+ project in production now, too: “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.”

As for Hoult, he recently started in the foodie dark comedy “The Menu” with Anya Taylor-Joy and Ralph Fiennes. He also recently received Emmy and SAG noms for his role as Peter The Great in Hulu‘s “The Great” with Elle Fanning. Up next, he plays the title role in Universal‘s “Renfield,” which boasts Nicolas Cage as Count Dracula. He has another upcoming vampire project, too: Robert Eggers‘ long-gestating remake of “Nosferatu” with Lily Rose-Depp, Bill Skårsgard, and Willem Dafoe.

Outside of “Nitram,” which premiered at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival, Kurzal also directed a handful of episodes of the short-lived Apple TV+ series “Shantaram” with Charlie Hunman.

“The Order” sounds promising, but don’t expect it in theaters until mid-2024.
