Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Terry Crews has recently talked reasons why he loves hosting America’s Got Talent’s newest extension AGT All-Stars. He also mentioned why the opinion of the panel of judges don’t hold water during the spin-off series.

Terry Crews Says He’s Glad to Host AGT All-Stars

In his recent appearance in Late Night With Seth Meyers, the actor-author-athlete got candid about his hosting role in AGT All-Stars. According to Crews, he’s been seeing contestants come up in the show and “do miracles” in their performances. Consequently, the television personality realized that outstanding auditionees don’t worry about competition, but rather worry about themselves.

“When you’re seeing somebody like Tom Ball, we gave him, like, this giant, like, all of us gave him a Golden Buzzer. He wasn’t worried about anything else but what he was doing,” he said.

With AGT All-Stars, the public gets to witness past winners and the most memorable acts again. While the stakes are higher this time, Crews mentioned one cool aspect about the series.

“The great thing is that the judges don’t matter. Whatever Simon says, whatever Howie says, whatever Heidi says, it’s just their opinion,” he said.

For those who may not know, superfans now have the upper hand in picking the acts that should advance to the next round. Superfans are delegates from all 50 states who have been longtime and dedicated viewers of AGT. Basically, the only power of the judges now is to provide feedback, not reject contestants.

For Crews who has never assumed the judging role, he says he’s already contented with hosting. As he said, he’s always been in AGT for the acts, so leading the show as host is just perfect.

His Children’s Book is Dedicated to His Art Teacher

Elsewhere in the interview, Crews also talked about his self-authored children’s book, Terry’s Crew. As stated by the AGT host, the book is based on actual people who “blessed” him. Specifically, he dedicates such creation to his art teacher back then.

“I actually dedicated this to my art teacher who actually filled out all these applications for me when I didn’t even believe in myself. And he got me two different scholarships,” he said.

Having this experience as a kid, Crews ultimately believes that no man is an island. For him, a self-made man is nothing but a myth.

“It’s really about who believes in you, who’s with you, and who – and the right circle that you’re in that’ll allow you to do anything you want to do,” he said.
