Leia Forman can officially look forward to another summer in Point Place.
Netflix on Friday announced that That ’90s Show has been renewed for Season 2, which will consist of 16 episodes (up from 10 episodes in Season 1). The news comes just two weeks after the sequel series’ Jan. 19 release.
“All of us at That ’90s Show were beyond excited by the warm, enthusiastic response to our first season,” series co-creator and showrunner Gregg Mettler said in a statement. “We can’t wait to return to Point Place for another summer of laughs and surprises. Hello 1996!”
Added That ’70s Show creators Bonnie and Terry Turner: “We here in Point Place realize you have many options for entertainment and we’re thrilled you chose us. We look forward to entertaining you for years to come. Buh-bye!”
The That ’70s Show revival picks up 15 years after the original series finale on Fox. The year is 1995, and Eric and Donna’s daughter Leia (played by Callie Haverda) is “visiting her grandparents for the summer, where she bonds with a new generation of Point Place kids” — Ashley Aufderheide’s Gwen, Mace Coronel’s Jay, Maxwell Acee Donovan’s Nate, Reyn Doi’s Ozzie and Sam Morelos’ Nikki — “under the watchful eye of Kitty and the stern glare of Red,” according to the official logline.
Original series stars Debra Jo Rupp and Kurtwood Smith star as Kitty and Red Forman. Fellow legacy cast members Topher Grace (Eric), Laura Prepon (Donna), Wilmer Valderrama (Fez), Mila Kunis (Jackie), Ashton Kutcher (Kelso), Don Stark (Bob) and Tommy Chong (Leo) all guest-starred in Season 1.
TVLine’s Dave Nemetz gave the sequel series a “D+,” while readers gave it an average grade of “C+.”

Hopefully we’ll see more of the original cast next season.
Excellent news. It honestly felt more like That 70s Show than season 8 of That 70s Show. I watched the entire season twice in the first weekend after it released.
It’s not a horrible show, though. I wish at least one of the writers had ever been to Wisconsin even once before. The storyline about the kids ‘discovering’ flannel shirts was so stupid. It’s Wisconsin, what’s next discovering cheese?
I remember flannel having a huge resurgence in the 90’s with the influence of grunge rock…
Lol. Just be thankful there were no gratuitous cows walking around.
They will like split into two 8 episode parts.
Some of the kids worked and others had really forced humor. I found myself enjoying the show when that 70’s cast popped up and not as much when the 90’s cast popped up (which is definitely an issue). Andrea anders was great though, she deserves success ive always loved her.
I had similar feelings about the reborn CSI show, but I’m starting to warm up to the new cast
This show didn’t deserve a D+ review. It was enjoyable and entertaining. What more did you expect from it?
The whole criticism of the review was that it wasn’t a revival with the original cast in their 40s, when it was made pretty clear this was about a new generation. I was puzzled by that review
Maybe the writer didn’t find it enjoying or entertaining? I didn’t didn’t think it was funny or too interesting.
It was an OK show. Nothing to write home about in my opinion. Eric and Donna’s daughter’s acting felt very forced in many episodes but not all. And am I crazy for being bothered about a bunch of 14 year old kids smoking pot? When it was the daughter’s birthday episode and she was just turning 15, I was pretty stunned. I know it’s fiction but still . . .
Did you watch the original show at all?
Hahaha yes. Hey they weren’t alone Fez and Donna supervised. Does anyone else get the feeling one of those kids will ne fez?
Great news! While it’s not nearly as good as the original I still enjoyed it. Hopefully it’s not split into two parts but it probably will be.
YES!!! I loved this so much! We need more comedies that aren’t dramedies.
I think it got better as season one went on I wasn’t that impressed at first with the new kids. I think they just were finding their footing towards the end hopefully season two keeps building that way.
1996?
Yes because Season 1 is visiting the grandparents for the Summer of 1995
That 70s Show was great…this ill-conceived butt fissure is horrible. Nothing like a cash grab from the past.
Really enjoyed all 10 episodes, glad its getting more next season!
The show was okay, some of the performances by the kids felt forced. I imagine that will improve as the cast gets to know one another and the writers learn how to write story lines for them.
The cast is a little bit on the heavy side, as far as too many characters though. Not all the cast members really fit into the group. Meaning that this show could be more successful without one or two people I think.
Who would you get rid of?
Nate or Ozzie
The original cast needs to return for more episodes! They’re really who people want to see. Fez was great! Definitely brought the most laughs & Kitty & Red were great, too.
I agree it’s a C to C+
They need to put the new kids in the background and bring back the old cast full time. I did laugh a couple times with the new cast but cringed mostly.
I only really like one of the kids and 2 are ok. The rest feel like generic annoying Disney clones, and even the intro was frustrating bad. It’s not hard to shoot a car scene and slow the song down.
The original series was a B to A depending on the season.
The creators really painted themselves into a huge corner setting season one in 1995 as that was essentially the last year the clearly gen x young characters are meant to be where the ones leading the direction.
1996 marks the start of the shift from grunge and gen x to the younger Millennials and Y2K pop such as the boy bands like Backstreet Boys. Also how is the show going to pivot from Riot GRRL Gewn to the Spice Girls releasing their debut in season 2?
Didn’t even see a CD Single for Wannabe until like Feb 1997 so that year they took off more so they could hold off for Season 3 for that
The kids in 90s Show are all about a year older than me. It wasn’t my age group that was into boy bands and Spice Girls.
I had a few friends that had sisters a couple years younger than us. That’s the group that was into the boy bands and Spice Girls.
But it’s not very good… So why…?
I’m happy to hear this. I enjoyed the first season. Not as good as the original and it took me some time to warm up to the new cast, but it got better with each episode. I did find the chubby guy acted more like Kelso than the guy who actually played Kelso’s son, which I’m not mad at. He was funny. I also enjoyed the mother who lived next door. Sorry about not knowing the newbies names, only watched it once.
Good for them! By the time I finished watching it, I actually wanted more episodes. I watched this for Red and Kitty and for the rest of the original cast. I enjoyed it the more I watched and found the new cast slowly growing on me. Hopefully they can tweak some of the annoying bits of the new cast and perhaps we’ll see more of the original cast (Eric especially). I hope the mention what’s going on with Hyde’s character and don’t ignore him, as well as Eric’s sister Laurie.
Hyde probably won’t come out due to the allegations against him, sadly. For me, the best character from the original cast
She said mention Hyde, not have Hyde appear.
At least Topher has a project to fall into once Home Ecomonics is cancelled in May.
I’m glad it’s renewed but there should be some cast changes. Some of the new cast of kids just didn’t work out. There was no chemistry between any of them really. Some were just not funny no matter how hard they tried. And the canned laughter needs to go, the original show didn’t need one because it was truly funny.
Of all the reboots and revivals, That 90s Show is the best one by far. Shame that TVLine doesn’t recognize fun entertainment.
Most of the new kids are just plain bad actors and the writing isn’t helping. Hopefully more of the original cast will be able to be available for multiple appearances.
Love that 90s show …it has all the wit of the original
