The Arizona Cardinals are just one of two teams that have yet to fill their head coaching vacancy, and the clock seems to be ticking in the desert.

Frank Reich was first hired by the Panthers last week. Sean Payton went to Denver and DeMeco Ryans landed in Houston just a few days ago, leaving Arizona and Indianapolis standing.

With Super Bowl Sunday coming soon, NFL insider Ian Rapoport joined Fox Sports 910's Jody Oehler on his Friday show to give some updates on the Cardinals' coaching hunt:

On first-round candidates who are still in the hunt

Rapoport: "I would imagine that Aaron Glenn - who I heard good things about - is probably one of the guys who would still be alive. I have not heard that Brian Flores has been eliminated. Maybe he has, I just have not specifically heard that so maybe that would be another one. You have to wait a long time to interview these guys. Sometimes the second interviews could be a little longer, so just because we haven't heard from them, it doesn't mean they're out."

On Vance Joseph returning to the Cardinals coaching staff next year

Rapoport: "Yes. If I were the Cardinals that's probably what I would do. A lot of times if you're passed up for the head coaching job it's tough to stay. I think Ejiro Evero in Denver is kind of going through that now. But a contract is a contract so sometimes that's what happens.

Cardinals Looking to Interview Coordinator from Chiefs or Eagles

Rapoport: "I do not know. I wish I did, but I don't know. I think that's one of those things that I, we are all probably going to find out today would be my guess. Is this thing wrapping up or is this going to be wrapping up in eight days? ... "

On Sean Payton/Cardinals situation

Rapoport: "I don't know that it was a near miss. I know that he liked the Cardinals and they liked him. I don't know if it was a perfect fit … I know they liked each other but there's probably more questions, the quarterback [Kyler Murray] not being healthy for half the season certainly doesn't help. I don't know, it's a lot to give up …"
