Mother's shock as beloved pet dog eats her £600 electricity voucher when she nips out of the room

  • Four-month-old puppy Archie ate the voucher when Avril Graham left the room
  • Thankfully, she was still able to redeem her £600 gift card for electricity

A mother was left shocked after she found that her beloved pet dog had ate her £600 electricity voucher.

Avril Graham was about to head to the post office last Friday to redeem the voucher when she briefly nipped out of the room - leaving her bag with the letter in it on the breakfast bar.

When the 46-year-old returned, she was horrified to find her Labrador Archie had ransacked the bag, and torn the voucher and envelope to shreds - leaving her to quite literally pick up the pieces.

Nursing assistant Avril scooped up what remained and was left to present the torn pieces to staff at the post office, saying it felt as though she was in a hilarious 'dog ate my homework' scenario.

The mother from Ballymena, County Antrim, was relieved when she was told that as long as the barcode could be scanned then the payment would be accepted.

Avril shared images to social media on Friday with the caption: 'When he knows he's just eaten your £600 electricity voucher.'

The photos showed the ruined envelope that had been ripped into by the four and a half month old Labrador, whilst further images show Archie appearing to hang his head in shame after running riot.

The post has since attracted dozens of likes and comments from users who reacted in hilarity to Archie's destructive antics.

One user said: 'Oh no! I was piecing together my CC statement when I got home but your life sucks more than mine today.'

Another joked: 'He'll be fully charged up now and raring to go.'

A third wrote: 'Aw he looks contrite, wee soul.'

Another user replied: 'Aw no. You might be able to log into your account online and depends who you're with but they have a copy of the letter you could maybe print off.'

This was not the first time that Archie has caused chaos at home, having previously managed to get into a cupboard and eat 16 chocolate brioches.

The pooch also has an ability to open doors which Avril captured on film, leading the family to screw door handles on upside down.

He has also eaten a tub of butter, a brand new pair of shoes, Avril's daughter's woolly hat and nibbled on some barstools.

Avril said: 'I was getting ready to go to town so had put the cheque into my bag, I left the room for about ten minutes.

'When I walked back in he had dragged my bag off the breakfast bar, taken the letter out and I found it in pieces on the floor.

'The lady in the post office was great, I went in and put all the pieces down. I was mortified and felt it was a 'dog ate my homework' scenario.

This was not the first time that Archie has caused chaos at home as he has a track record for mischief

'She just said as long as they could read the barcode it would be fine.

'We've had to put child locks on the cupboards as he got into them and helped himself to brioches, he kindly left me the wrappers.'

She added: 'He's such an affectionate boy and we know it's just a puppy phase but we don't know what he'll do next, he's lucky he's so handsome as his gorgeous face is what gets him out of a lot of trouble.'
