BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - A quiet, clear, and chilly night is in store across Alabama with temperatures already widespread in the 30s this evening. If you want to take advantage of the clear skies tonight, bundle up and step outside to see the almost full moon, or grab your binoculars or telescope to try to catch a glimpse of the Green Comet! North winds will stay at around 5-10 MPH overnight, but temperatures will still manage to fall into the 20s for tomorrow morning. Make sure you cover up any outdoor plants, bring your pets in, and keep yourselves warm overnight. The cold start is at least a good excuse to sleep in Saturday morning!

WEEKEND OUTLOOK: Expect more sunshine around for the start of the weekend with more clouds moving in by the afternoon as winds shift to out the east-southeast at 5-10 MPH. Highs look seasonable in the mid 50s. Skies will stay mostly cloudy overnight with lows falling into the 30s for Sunday morning. Despite the chilly morning, Sunday marks a transition to warmer days ahead with highs climbing comfortably into the low 60s by the afternoon under a partly cloudy sky. Even with some clouds around at times, the weather will stay dry over the weekend, so enjoy some time outdoors -- especially with milder temperatures around on Sunday.

NEXT BIG THING: A warmer and active weather pattern looks possible next week across Central Alabama. Temperatures will likely climb into the upper 60s and low 70s through Thursday. Morning lows will start off in the upper 30s and low 40s on Monday but eventually climb into the 50s by Wednesday and Thursday. Though we are confident about the warming trend, there is still some uncertainty on the timing and intensity of any rain or the possibility of storms in the forecast as low pressure systems are set to develop to our west. For now, Monday at least looks dry under a mostly sunny sky. We have a chance for isolated showers back by late Tuesday as our first rainmaker moves into the Deep South. For now, expect a 50% chance for scattered showers on Wednesday with some lingering into Thursday. Most of next Friday looks dry for now, but another rainmaker arrives by the evening hours, keeping rain chances elevated through at least early Saturday. Of course, this timing can change as this is still a week or so out, so make sure to stay up to date with any changes to the forecast on the WBRC First Alert Weather App in the coming days.
