St. Francis, La Salle, Maranatha in Action

The St. Francis High School varsity boys’ basketball team posted a 75-64 overtime victory against Fairfax High of Los Angeles in the State Preview Classic at Ontario’s Colony High on Saturday as senior George Tupy racked up a team-high 21 points with nine rebounds and three assists.
Senior captain Luke McGrath registered 15 points, three boards, one steal and one assist, sophomore Mazi Mosley tallied 14 points and two rebounds, and junior Chris Kalachian poured in 13 points with three boards, one steal and one assist. Senior Brandin Dantzler recorded four points, eight rebounds, six assists, three steals and one block while junior Kennedy Mitchell-Egbo finished with four points, two boards and one block. Junior Ethan Childs produced two points, two rebounds and two steals while junior Greg Gazarian had two points and one board.
The Golden Knights defeated host Alemany High in Mission Hills, 52-37, in a Mission League game last Friday. McGrath poured in 12 points with one steal and one assist, senior captain Jackson Mosley registered nine points and four rebounds, and Tupy finished with eight points, five boards and five assists. Mazi Mosley recorded five points, four rebounds, two steals and one assist, Dantzler produced four points, nine boards, four assists, two steals and one block, Kalachian tallied four points, two rebounds and one steal, and Gazarian scored four points. Sophomore Joe Hickey posted two points and four boards, Mitchell-Egbo had two points and two rebounds, and junior Alessio Calderon scored two points. Meanwhile, Childs collected one board.
SFHS lost to visiting Sierra Canyon High of Chatsworth, 61-43, in a game last Wednesday. Jackson Mosley poured in 12 points with two steals and two assists, Dantzler registered nine points, four rebounds and one steal, and Tupy tallied nine points, one steal and one board. Mazi Mosley finished with six points, four rebounds and one assist, McGrath drained a pair of threes with two boards and one steal, and Mitchell-Egbo recorded two points and one rebound. The game was played in front of a capacity crowd which anticipated watching Sierra Canyon’s highly touted lineup, which includes All-American Bronny James, the son of Lakers’ superstar LeBron James. However, the younger James was injured and did not play.
The Golden Knights lost to Windward High of Los Angeles, 73-44, in a South Pasadena Martin Luther King Jr. Day Showdown game last week. Jackson Mosley racked up 15 points, five rebounds and one assist while Dantzler registered nine points and nine boards. Tupy scored five points with three rebounds and two assists while Mazi Mosley tallied five points, two boards and one assist. Kalachian drained a 3-pointer with one assist while Calderon sank a 3-pointer with one rebound. Gazarian finished with two points and two assists while McGrath recorded two points and one steal. Hickey collected two boards and one assist, junior Jeremiah Su had two steals and Mitchell-Egbo posted one rebound.
SFHS recently picked up a 64-59 Mission League victory at Chaminade High in West Hills as Jackson Mosley amassed 24 points, seven assists, five boards and one steal. Mazi Mosley racked up 18 points, including five 3-pointers, with 11 rebounds, two steals and one assist while McGrath poured in 11 points with five boards and four assists.
St. Francis previously lost a league game at Notre Dame High in Sherman Oaks, 78-51, as Jackson Mosley poured in 11 points with two boards. Mitchell-Egbo registered eight points, three rebounds and one steal, Mazi Mosley finished with eight points, two steals and two boards, and Tupy recorded eight points and three rebounds.
The fourth-place Golden Knights (18-8 overall, 3-2 in league) will finish their league schedule by hosting first-place Harvard-Westlake High of Studio City on Friday, Jan. 27.

LA SALLE

La Salle junior Jonah Thaxton collected seven rebounds in a nonleague game against Monrovia last week.

The Lancers dropped their fifth consecutive game after losing to visiting Paraclete High of Lancaster, 87-81, in a Camino Real League game last Friday.
La Salle was defeated at Salesian High in Los Angeles, 61-54, in a league game last Wednesday. Junior Ryan Hajjar racked up 16 points, eight rebounds and two assists, freshman Omar Gonzalez registered 16 points, four boards and three assists, and freshman Emmitt Claiborne poured in 11 points with two rebounds and one assist. Senior Dingkun Chen tallied six points, five boards, one steal and one assist while junior Isaiah Carrillo finished with two points, two rebounds and one assist. Junior Jonah Thaxton collected three boards and one block while senior Collis Chu and sophomore Anthony Gibbs each had two rebounds.
The Lancers lost at Monrovia, 63-41, in a nonleague game last Monday. Hajjar registered 15 points, four boards, one steal and one assist while Gonzalez poured in 12 points with two assists. Sophomore Gio Guardado tallied three points, three rebounds and one assist, Thaxton scored two points with seven boards and one steal, and junior Athan Darlas recorded two points, three rebounds and one block. Chen produced two points, two blocks and one steal, Claiborne finished with two points, two boards and two assists, Carrillo posted two points, one steal and one rebound, and junior John Khalaf scored two points. Chu had one block, Gibbs collected one steal and sophomore Joel Solomon had one assist.
La Salle recently lost a league game against visiting Cathedral High of Los Angeles, 85-61, as Hajjar amassed a team-high 35 points, including seven 3-pointers, with nine rebounds, one block, one steal and one assist. Chen poured in 12 points with six boards, three assists, two blocks and one steal while Claiborne racked up 12 points, seven rebounds and one assist. Gonzalez tallied two points, five assists, three boards and two steals while Guardado collected six rebounds, one steal and one assist. Carrillo finished with two boards, two assists and one steal while Thaxton had one rebound.
The Lancers previously lost a league game at St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy in Downey, 85-41. Hajjar recorded 15 points, two assists and one block while Gonzalez sank three 3-pointers with two assists, one block and one board. Guardado finished with five points, one steal and one rebound.
La Salle (7-15 overall, 1-5 in league) will host first-place St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy in a league rematch on Friday, Jan. 27, at 7 p.m. The Lancers will visit Cathedral on Monday, Jan. 30, before hosting Salesian High of Los Angeles in their regular-season finale on Wednesday, Feb. 1.

MARANATHA

Maranatha High School sophomore Chris Smith and the Minutemen are in third place in the Olympic League with a 3-2 record.

The Minutemen lost their Nick Sherman Legacy Showcase game at Pasadena High School against Valencia, 59-53, on Saturday after falling at Valley Christian High in Cerritos, 58-52, in an Olympic League game the day before.
The Minutemen previously picked up a pair of league wins at Heritage Christian High of Northridge, 60-51, and Whittier Christian High in La Habra, 64-17. Maranatha also lost a nonleague game against San Gabriel Academy, 50-46. Individual statistics were not reported to the Pasadena Outlook.
The third-place Minutemen (12-12 overall, 3-2 in league) will host first-place Heritage Christian in a league game Thursday at 7 p.m. before hosting Whittier Christian in their season finale on Thursday, Feb. 2.
