Last week, the Liberian International Ship and Corporate Registry (LISCR) held a regulatory update seminar in Hamburg. It was well attended by professionals from the regional maritime industry and abroad. Merle Stilkenbäumer, Managing Director of the LISCR Hamburg office, welcomed the audience and expressed the Liberian Registry’s gratitude “for the continuous support of the local shipping community, a cornerstone on the Registry’s continued growth.” Reynaldo Garibaldi, LISCR’s Executive Vice President of Global Operations, was quoted as saying, “Thank you for the trust bestowed on the Liberian Registry and the always open, transparent and target-oriented discussions.” The agenda for the LISCR Hamburg Seminar covered the Advantages of the Liberian Registry, Port State Control & Dynamic Prevention Program, Policy Updates, and LNG & Alternative Fuels Services.

Dallas Smith, Senior Vice President of Commercial and Head of LNG & Alternative Fuels, took the floor and detailed the various advantages and services of the Liberian Registry, its growth over yesterday, today and projected growth for tomorrow, and the prospected way forward. He also discussed the IMO framework, Efficiency Existing Ship Index and Carbon Intensity Indicator, and Joint Industry Projects (JIPs) to help meet these requirements with LNG and alternative fuels. The Liberian Registry has currently issued over 35 Approvals in Principle for JIPs, the most deep-drafted dual fueled vessels on the water, and over 31% of the market share of ordered newbuild LNG Carriers. Mr. Smith did not hesitate to emphasize that the growth of the Registry “will not compromise one single notch on the high standards of quality services the Registry renders to its customers, and what its customers may justifiably expect from the Liberian Registry,” a statement that was very well received by the audience.

Roderick Acquie, Senior Vice President Maritime Operations, eagerly elaborated on the Registry’s quality service standards and re-confirmed “the continuous development of devices and tools to further optimize the already high standards for the benefit of shipowners and ship managers.” Mr. Acquie introduced the audience to the new Duty Officer Video Conferencing Service, a live global 24/7 video support system with which shipowners and ship managers can chat, video conference, and exchange documents directly and in real-time with the duty officers in charge.

After Athens, London and Seoul, the LISCR Hamburg Seminar was the 4th global seminar the Liberian Registry has hosted recently. Mr. Smith and Mr. Acquie, both from LISCR Headquarters in Dulles, Virginia, concluded the event stating, “It was great to get in front of the professionals from the shipping industry here in Hamburg and discuss the ongoing commercial, operational and regulatory challenges.” It is apparent that “shipowners, ship managers, and the Liberian Registry must work together as partners to ensure that the various challenges can be tackled. This partnership is the key reason that the Liberian Registry is leading the way.”
