Perryville District #32 School Board members discuss security threat

PERRYVILLE, Mo. (KBSI) – Perryville High School experienced a terroristic threat a couple weeks ago, leading officials to have to put the school on lockdown and evacuate the school. Later that same week another threat came in, forcing the school to call off classes completely.

Over that weekend school officials and law enforcement worked together to get the suspect into custody. It was later found out the person of interest was a juvenile transfer student from Herculaneum.

“So I put a lot of trust into the school, you know to protect my kids, you know I’m hundreds of miles away from home and sometimes my wife can’t get there in time, because we have a small child at home, and so it’s a little concerning,” said Jon Christiansen, a parent with the Perryville High School.

The event left parents like Christiansen worried and frustrated with the way the events were handled.

Those questions will be answered at the school board meeting that had the date pushed back until Thursday, Feb. 2.
