CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Notre Dame women’s basketball faced a tough task on Thursday night. Even against a Boston College team it had beaten by 37 points at home a month ago, the rematch against the Eagles came in a building in which they hadn’t won in four years.

Boston College (14-11, 4-8 ACC) played like a team that believed it belonged on the same court with the No. 9 Irish (18-3, 9-2), but in the end Notre Dame prevailed 72-59.

Notre Dame, playing shorthanded for a third straight game, led 19-10 at the end of a solid first quarter, but Boston College used a 10-0 run in the quarter to cut the Irish lead to one.

Notre Dame responded with a 7-0 run, which included a 3-pointer from Sonia Citron, to push the lead back up to eight points. Citron finished with a game-high 23 points on 10 for 18 shooting overall and 3 for 6 from 3-point range.

The Fighting Irish led 32-30 at halftime and opened the second half with a 6-0 run to push the lead to 38-30 before the Eagles tied the game at 43-43 for the first and only tie of the game.

Notre Dame responded with a 10-0 run and led 53-45 at the end of the third. The feisty Eagles closed to within five points, but the Irish responded with seven straight points as Citron buried a 3 from the left corner to make it a 62-50 lead with 5:54 remaining.

Olivia Miles hit a triple to make it a 10-0 run that would expand to a 14-0 explosion that pushed the Notre Dame advantage all the way up to 19 points. Miles finished with her seventh double-double of the season with 22 points and 10 assists. She had eight rebounds as well, just missing her second triple-double of the year.

Miles and Citron both topped 20 points in a game for the second time this season. The first time they did it was on Nov. 16 at Northwestern. Thursday’s win helped Notre Dame avoid losing back-to-back games for the first time this season and also gave them their first win at Conte Forum since Feb. 13, 2019.
