Get excited because the brand-new Toyota Grand Highlander is finally available, and it delivers significant changes. We got to climb all through the interior and can confirm that the 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander corrects one annoying issue.

How much space does the 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander have?

The 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander provides 20.6 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, while the regular Highlander has 16.0 cubes. The Grand Highlander has a total of 98.0 cubic feet of storage space compared to 84.3 with the smaller Highlander.

We also have good news for adults. You can actually fit in the backseat! A new Grand Highlander image shows an adult and a child sitting in the third row. Plus, we enjoyed the rear seat ourselves. The adult’s knees aren’t even hitting the back of the second row! This would be impossible in the regular Toyota Highlander.

The third row in the regular Highlander is pretty tight. It sits higher than the other two rows, and the bottoms of the seat come up to the back of the second row. It’d possible for adults to access and is reserved for small children.

Also, there are only two seats back there. Pickup Truck Talk points out the third row of the Grand Highlander has three seatbelt buckles, so maybe it can carry more people. You can see that there are storage cubbies in the third row with USB ports for charging devices too.

The rear hatch seems to be set right up against the back of the third row, but the trunk area can reportedly fit seven suitcases. Unfortunately, we don’t know the size of the luggage that’s positioned behind the rear occupants.

What engines does the Grand Highlander have?

The standard 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander packs an impressive punch. The turbocharged 2.4-liter engine cranks out 265 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. This engine isn’t available with the regular Highlander and is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Upgrade to the Grand Highlander Hybrid Max that pairs the same engine with a battery and an electric motor to generate 362 hp. This setup is a bit different, so the powertrain is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.

Also, the regular Highlander uses a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 265 hp and 309 lb-ft of torque. Both vehicles share a hybrid setup with 245 hp.

The Toyota Grand Highlander can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 6.3 seconds. It’s roughly two seconds faster than the other Highlander model.

Also, the Highlander can tow up to 5,000 lbs. The Grand Highlander might tow more. It needs to reach 5,500 lbs to match the Kia Telluride.

How much does the 2024 Grand Highlander cost?

The 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander starts at $43,070. The top-spec Platinum trim takes the price up to $53,545. Also, don’t forget about the $1,335 destination fee. The 2023 Toyota Highlander starts at $36,620.

The 2023 Kia Telluride starts at $35,890, though. So, the Grand Highlander will need to pack in the value to be worth the higher price. The Grand Highlander has three trims available, while the Telluride has 10 different trim levels.

Stay tuned for the latest updates to see if the extra space in the new Toyota Grand Highlander is worth the higher price. It is if you want a larger third row.
