Blindspotting has confirmed its season 2 premiere date for the US and Canada.

The upcoming instalment of Starz's Oakland-set crime drama is due to air its first two episodes on April 14. Remaining episodes will then air weekly on Fridays (via Deadline).

The spin-off of the 2018 movie of the same name, Blindspotting follows Ashley (Jasmine Cephas Jones), a woman whose life takes an unexpected turn when her partner of 12 years. Miles (Rafael Casal), is sent to prison. She and their son, Sean (Atticus Woodward), are forced to move in with Miles's mum Rainey (Helen Hunt) and half-sister Trish (Jaylen Barron).

Co-created by Casal and Snowpiercer and Hamilton's Daveed Diggs, the series takes place six months following the events of the movie. In season two, Ashley and Miles are adjusting to their new environments nine months after their prison wedding.

While she's having a hard time raising Sean on her own and dealing with Rainey, who wants to stay connected to Miles, he eagerly awaits his first family visitation.

Meanwhile, Trish's new business venture has proved to be profitable, but she can't help being jealous over her best friend and business partner Jacque's (April Absynth) relationship with Cuddie (Lance Holloway).

Both Casal and Diggs serve as executive producers on the show and wrote episodes of season one.

In addition to co-creating the series, Casal is also showrunner and director of four episodes, while executive producer Jess Wu Calder stepped behind the camera for two episodes. Wu Calder, Keith Calder, Emily Gerson Saines, Ken Lee, and Tim Palen also serve as executive producers, with Kathryn Tyus-Adair and Claire Wendlandt overseeing Blindspotting on behalf of Starz and Lionsgate respectively.

Diggs is expected to return in the role of Andre Layton in the fourth and final season of Snowpiercer. The show has completed production on the new batch of episodes, yet it seems that it will be a long time before fans can watch them as cable TV channel TNT decided not to go ahead with its release, thus putting a stop to their original programming.

The dystopian series is currently in the process of securing another broadcaster.

Blindspotting season 2 will premiere in the US and Canada on April 14. In the UK, it airs on Starzplay.
