Aaron Rodgers trolls California fans with San Francisco 49ers ‘announcement’

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is taking part in this week’s Pebble Beach Pro-Am Golf Tournament in California’s Monterey County.

The backdrop here are continued rumors linking the four-time NFL MVP to the San Francisco 49ers in his native Northern California.

Since finishing up shop in a non-playoff season with Green Bay, speculation has increased that the 39-year-old Rodgers will be traded. He touched on that earlier in the week, indicating that trade talks between the Packers and other teams have started without him being involved.

The backdrop here is San Francisco’s quarterback situation. Both Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo suffered serious injuries during the regular season. After putting up an historic start to his career, rookie seventh-round pick Brock Purdy suffered an elbow injury in San Francisco’s NFC Championship Game loss to the Philadelphia Eagles this past Sunday. He’s expected to miss at least six months.

So, about that whole Aaron Rodgers trade to the 49ers? The quarterback spoke on that while teeing off from Pebble Beach on Thursday. Whether he was just trolling local fans or something else, the future Hall of Famer told those at the event that he was not heading to the 49ers. You be the judge whether he was being serious.

Again, this could simply be Rodgers trolling 49ers fans. He’s been known to play that role at times in the past.

While there’s a scenario that suggests Rodgers will ultimately land with the two-time reigning NFC runner-ups, it just doesn’t seem possible at this point.

First off, Green Bay is said to be demanding at least two first-round picks for the quarterback. San Francisco is without its first-round selection in the 2023 NFL Draft due to the trade up for fellow signal caller Trey Lance ahead of the 2021 event.

Secondly, Green Bay is looking to move Rodgers to an AFC team. It seems unreasonable to believe that the team would trade him to a conference rival, especially such a bitter one.

As for the 49ers’ quarterback situation, head coach Kyle Shanahan pretty much shot down the possibility of adding a high-profile veteran in his season-ending press conference on Tuesday.

“I know we have two starters on our team right now that I believe we can win with, Shanahan told reporters. “You’re not that eager to go look around.”

So much for that pipe dream. Now, back to the regularly scheduled programming that includes how Aaron Rodgers might fit on your team.
