City of El Paso offering free tax income tax preparation assistance

EL PASO, Texas -- If you need help doing your taxes, the City of El Paso is offering free income tax preparation assistance this month at several city centers.

The Parks and Recreation Department is teaming up with AARP Foundation TaxAide to offer assistance now until April 15. 

The assistance is by appointment only. Walk-ins will not be accommodated.

To make an appointment, call the numbers listed below.

Here are a list of centers, dates, and times:

  • Memorial Park Senior Center: (915) 212-0391
    Appointment Availability: 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday and Wednesday  
  • Hilos de Plata Senior Center: (915) 212-2250
    Appointment Availability: 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday and Friday  
  • Eastside Senior Center: (915) 212-0411
    Appointment Availability: 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday and Friday  
  • Galatzan Recreation Center: (915) 212-0734
    Appointment Availability: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday and 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday  

Here's a list of things to bring to your appointment:

  • Photo ID of the taxpayer(s)  
  • Original Social Security cards or Social Security Statements (SSA-1099) of the taxpayer(s) and all dependents  
  • All W2s, 1099s for interest and dividends, broker statements, 1099-MISC, 1099-NEC, 1099-R, CSA 1099-R, SSA-1099, 1099-G (unemployment), other 1099’s, or W-2G (gambling winnings) received for the 2022 tax year  
  • For direct deposit of your tax refund OR direct debit of your tax payment, bring the routing number and the account number of the bank account which can be found in a voided check  
  • Last year’s tax return for comparison.
