If you thought your days were numbered, and were suddenly given a second chance at life, what would you do?

This Positively Upstate is about a local man’s journey from the brink of death to making dreams come true and the delicious way his family is giving back.

Stephen Wojick was in great shape. Young, and no prior health issues.

But on the eve of his honeymoon, he went to the emergency room.

“I go there and they tell me I’m having a heart attack. And I’m like - no way I’m having a heart attack, and they go, no you really are.”

A couple of stents were put in, and he was sent home. But then, pneumonia set in and it just wouldn’t go away. Further testing confirmed the unthinkable. Wojick would need a heart transplant.

Stephen is pouring his new, healthy heart into a home bakery business called “The Cookie Jar By Mel.

Mel, being his wife Melissa, whose dream was to own a bakery.

It’s a business they dabbled in before, but now are fully committed.

And he’s giving back to the organization that saved him.

For every dozen cookies sold, a dollar goes to the non-profit, Donate Life.

Currently, New York is one of the lowest ranking organ donor states in the country with only 22% of new Yorkers are registered donors compared to the nationwide average of 47 percent.

Right now, all the baking is done out of their home until May, when they move to a commercial kitchen at a campground just down the road.
