CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The warm-up, relatively speaking, was short lived.

The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Chill Advisory for North Central Illinois and Northeast Illinois, including for counties such as McHenry, Lake, De Kalb, Kane, DuPage and Northern Cook. The advisory begins at 11 p.m. Thursday night and will continue through 10 a.m. Friday.

With wind gusts as high as 40 mph, wind chills, beginning late tonight and into the early morning hours, could be as low as 25 below zero, the NWS says.

The National Weather Service notes wind chill levels this low can produce frostbite on exposed skin in as quickly as 30 minutes.

Air temperatures will also nosedive. By midnight Friday, temperatures were in single digits and fall to as low as 7 degrees below zero in some western suburbs and 3 above at the Lakefront, according to AccWeather.

The real feel at 6:15 a.m. Friday was 15 degrees below zero.

Friday's predicted high temperature: 17 degrees, with wind gusts easing as the day goes on.

Fortunately, the deep freeze will be temporary. AccuWeather forecasts much more mild air for the weekend and into early next week. Saturday, temperatures are expected to reach 38 degrees and, on Monday, it could be as warm as 45.

Be sure to tune into the WBBM broadcast for live weather updates on the eights.
