Winter in Western New York is in full swing and winter almost always brings snow and cold temperatures with it. That is something that just goes hand-in-hand with living in New York State and it becomes a way of life.

However, sometimes the weather gets extreme enough that we need to make changes to our normal day-to-day routines.

The National Weather Service is expecting Buffalo and its surrounding areas to receive a blast of heavy snow, and some of the coldest tempatures of the year this week.

After two massive snow storms that essentially shut down Western New York, should local schools preemptively close since we're expecting this pending blast of winter weather?

Some of the weather models expect windchills to be well below zero, and since the impacts of frostbite can take effect in as little as 10 minutes, many meteorologists are warning people to limit their time outside in the weather.

With these warnings, do we want to send our little ones outside to wait for the school bus? Some school districts have already begun the process of shuttering school buildings, but not all schools have done so.

The Buffalo Public Schools issued a notice on their Facebook page advising students and staff to stay home on Friday, February 3, 2023.

Due to concern for the safety of our students, families, and staff with the anticipated severe low temperature and low wind chill, Buffalo Public Schools will be closed on February 3, 2023 and ALL students and staff are to remain home.

Buffalo schools have also remote learning activities for Friday, so it's a true snow day. They've also canceled afterschool activities, along with all Saturday activities except for Indoor Track activities at Buffalo State College.
