Gueorgui Iskrenov was found guilty following a three-day trial for bias-related assault in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, federal officials announced on Thursday, Feb. 2.
Prosecutors said that at approximately 2 p.m. on July 20, 2020, the victim, an African American woman, was walking her service dog and crossing the exit ramp of her apartment complex by the Wharf in Southwest, DC.
Iskrenov drove his SUV up the exit ramp at a high rate of speed, almost hitting the woman and her dog, they said, and when she advised that he be more careful, Iskrenov began screaming racist and sexist epithets.
Officials say that Iskrenov then intentionally spat into the victim’s face, with the saliva getting on her glasses and in her hair before he drove away.
He was arrested less than four weeks later after being positively identified, and prosecutors noted that "the government’s evidence at trial showed that Iskrenov had a history of racist tirades against African-American neighbors."
Judge Andrea Hertzfeld scheduled Iskrenov’s sentencing for Thursday, Feb. 9.
