KILGORE, Texas (KLTV) - Three Kilgore High School students signed on to participate in college play during a ceremony Thursday morning.

Although these athletes were recognized for their athletic achievements what impressed their peers the most was their academic achievements.

“I’m more proud of what they’ve actually achieved in the classroom than I am on the field. One of them was an academic all-state, both of them were academic all-district, and that’s more important than the accolades they got on the field.” said coach Clint Fuller.

Peyton Christian, the two-time all-district, academic all-state, and 2022 district defensive MVP, signed to play football for Lamar University.

“The brotherhood of going to work every day, and the summer workouts, the long hours you put in, it paid off.” said Christian.

Isaiah Ross signed to play football for Harding University. Ross is a two-time all-district and was the 2022 offensive MVP and an academic all-state.

“I feel like for me to be on the football field, I have to pass academically, so I knew I had to take care of my business on and off the field.” said Isaiah Ross.

Matthew Tyeskie signed for track at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He was the 2022 41 110 hurdles state champion and also academic all-state. Although he signed on for track and field he says there’s a chance for football as well.

“There is a chance, it’s not a hundred percent track in my life but as for now I’m going with track.” said Tyeskie.

The bulldog faithful showered their hometown guys with well wishes as they take part of them where they’re headed.
