News 12 headed to luxury bed and breakfast the Akwaaba Mansion in Bed-Stuy to kick off Black History Month.
A sea of colorful brownstones line MacDonough Street in the heart of the Stuyvesant Heights Historic District, but one property built on the block in 1860 stands out above the rest.
Chief enjoyment officer Monique Greenwood says she and her husband delight in spoiling visitors at the Akwaaba Mansion. The bed-and-breakfast features four guest rooms with private bathrooms, a living room and a guest lounge. The rooms are all decked out with antiques, African textiles and modern art.
Greenwood likes to say the term "staycation" was invented here because the mansion is perfect for locals who need a break or a place to celebrate. If you venture in from out of town, they will help you plan activities in Brooklyn or in nearby Manhattan.
When the weather gets a little bit warmer, Akwaaba opens glamping tents for guests to hang, cook out and watch movies in the backyard.
