Driver fatally strikes 77-year-old man crossing the street in Naperville

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A driver struck and killed a 77-year-old man who was attempting to cross a street Wednesday, Naperville police said.

Police said the man was trying to cross Brom Drive at Martin Avenue around 1 p.m. when he was hit by a Chevrolet SUV.

The driver of the SUV, a 48-year-old man from Romeoville, was not injured and was released from the scene, authorities said.

Despite what police described as life-saving efforts performed at the scene of the crash, the 77-year-old died from his injuries.

Naperville police said the man’s identity is being withheld while authorities work to notify his next of kin.

The case remains under investigation, police said. Anyone with information regarding the accident has been asked to contact the Naperville Police Department’s Traffic Unit at 630-420-8833.
