Mike Woodson Gives Injury Update on Johnson, Geronimo, Duncomb

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – It's been an injury-filled season for the Indiana Hoosiers, who could be shorthanded on Saturday against No. 1 Purdue.

Indiana point guard Xavier Johnson has been out since Dec. 17 with a broken foot, but he appears to be making progress in recent weeks. Johnson shot around with two shoes on – no walking boot – prior to the Ohio State game on Saturday, and he went through some shooting and dribbling drills on Tuesday at Maryland. 

On Thursday, Indiana coach Mike Woodson commented on Johnson's status.

"He's been out there trying to shoot a little bit," Woodson said. "He just got out of the boot. I mean, I just don't know. It's hard to say when he's going to actually be back. If you ask Xavier, he thinks he can play tomorrow. Listen, I've been around basketball a long time. That's impossible. The guy broke his foot. I'm not using that in a negative way. I wish he could play tomorrow, but I don't know."

Junior forward Jordan Geronimo played some of his best basketball during Indiana's wins over Wisconsin and Illinois in mid-January, but he's been out the last two games with a calf strain. Woodson said Geronimo "shot a little bit" on Wednesday, but he's unsure when he'll return. Geronimo has played 19 games this season with five starts, averaging 5.6 points and 3.2 rebounds.

"I've known players that have had calf problems," Woodson said. "And that's something you can't mess around with, or you can be out for a longer period of time if you come back too soon. I don't know what the outcome is."

Sophomore center Logan Duncomb has also missed the last two games against Ohio State and Maryland. Woodson clarified on Thursday that Duncomb has a "major sinus infection again." Duncomb has appeared in nine games off the bench for Indiana, averaging 2.9 points and 1.7 rebounds.
