OMAHA POLICE JUST RELEASED SEVERAL SECURITY CAMERA IMAGES OF THE TARGET SHOOTER, INCLUDING THIS ONE, KETV NEWSWATCH 7 SEAN MCKINNON IS LIVE WITH THOSE NEW DETAILS SEAN. OMAHA POLICE CONFIRMED 32 YEAR OLD JOSEPH JONES IS THE SHOOTER AND THEY SAY VETERAN OFFICER TOOK HIM DOWN. HE’S OFFICER BRIAN VAN DER HEIM. HE’S BEEN WITH THE DEPARTMENT FOR 20 YEARS. HE’S ON PAID LEAVE PER OPD POLICY. AS FOR JONES, THEY SAY HE WALKED INTO THE TARGET AT 178TH IN WEST CENTER WITH THIS GUN. THEY SAY HE BOUGHT IT FOR DAYS EARLIER AT CABELA’S. POLICE SAY JONES TOOK HIS COAT OFF AT SOME POINT. YOU SEE IT ON THE GROUND THERE ALONG WITH LOADED MAGAZINES. IT’S STILL UNCLEAR EXACTLY HOW LONG HE WAS INSIDE THE STORE BEFORE LAW THE SHOOTING STARTED. POLICE HAVE NOT SAID HOW MANY ROUNDS. JONES FIRED. WITNESSES SAY THEY HEARD 10 TO 15 SHOTS. INVESTIGATORS HAVE NOT SAID THE DIRECTIONS, THE DIRECTION JONES FIRED OR IF HE WAS TRYING TO SHOOT ANYONE AS THE GUNFIRE DIDN’T HIT ANYONE WHO POLICE RESPONDED TO AND KILLED JONES. AN OFFICIAL CONFIRMS AS OF 1:00 THIS AFTERNOON, THE DEPARTMENT PROCESSED 20 TO 25 GUN PURCHASED PERMITS TODAY. LAST YEAR, ON THIS DAY, THEY PROCESSED 59. A MAN WHOSE GIRL FRIEND WAS WORKING AT TARGET TUESDAY SAYS PEOPLE NEED TO DO WHAT THEY CAN TO PROTECT THEMSELVES. IF YOU SEE SOMEONE DOING SOMETHING THAT’S BAD, DON’T YOU WANT TO STOP THAT? A west Omaha Target store reopened on Thursday after an active shooter incident earlier this week.An Omaha police officer shot and killed 32-year-old Joseph Jones, who fired multiple shots inside the store on Tuesday. Authorities said Jones had an AR-15-style rifle and 13 loaded rifle magazines in his possession.The store, located near 178th Street and West Center Road, will have counselors on-site "for the next few days" as employees return to the store, according to a statement from Drew Guenther, the store director."While we’re looking forward to moving past the events of Tuesday afternoon, we’d be remiss not to thank our guests and community for the kind outreach these past few days. It’s a reminder of how much Omaha feels like family and why we’re grateful to be part of this community," Guenther said in a statement.No civilians were hurt during the incident.Omaha police said there were 250 people, including employees and customers, inside the store at the time of the incident."We’re also grateful to the Omaha Police Department, both in the initial response that likely saved lives, and in the ongoing support from Chief Schmaderer and his team," Guenther said.Get the latest headlines from KETV NewsWatch 7

A west Omaha Target store reopened on Thursday after an active shooter incident earlier this week.

An Omaha police officer shot and killed 32-year-old Joseph Jones, who fired multiple shots inside the store on Tuesday.

Authorities said Jones had an AR-15-style rifle and 13 loaded rifle magazines in his possession.
