BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — After initially saying Buffalo Public Schools will be switching to remote instruction on Friday, BPS has now announced via its website and social media accounts that schools will be closed due to the bitter cold temperatures.
Starting at 4 a.m., a wind chill advisory will overtake all of Western New York. It’s set to last through Saturday at 10 a.m.
Students and staff are being told to stay home. Students will be sent home non-perishable food items on Thursday.
“Due to concern for the safety of our students, families, and staff with the anticipated severe low temperature and low wind chill, Buffalo Public Schools will be closed on February 3, 2023, and ALL students and staff are to remain home,” BPS said.
BPS also announced that Saturday Community School, My Brother’s Keeper, athletics and other school activities for Friday and Saturday are canceled.
Saturday’s Sectional indoor track competitions at Houghton and Buffalo State are still scheduled to take place, and BPS athletes will participate, per the update.
“Please stay warm and stay safe,” BPS said in the initial announcement.
“We look forward to resuming normal operations on Monday,” the schools said in the follow-up.
