A second person has been taken into custody in connection with a New Year’s Even shooting in Asheville.
Authorities say detectives with the Asheville Police Department apprehended Adrian Michael Watts, 30, on Wednesday, Feb. 2023, at around 3:30 p.m.
During the arrest, Watts was found to be in possession of a firearm; authorities seized the Diamondback DB9 pistol (9mm)
Watts was charged with possession of firearm by felon and carrying a concealed gun. He was taken into custody on warrants for possession of firearm by felon, felony flee to elude arrest w/ motor vehicle, reckless driving, speeding, resist, delay, obstruct, failure to stop at a stop sign and three counts of felony probation violation.
Watts was booked into the Buncombe County Jail and is being held on NO BOND by the magistrate due to prior firearm offenses.
The other shooting suspect Christian Tavian Drane, 24, was previously arrested and booked into the Buncombe County Jail on Jan. 17. Drane was released six days later under a $25,000 bond (or $2,500) issued by the magistrate.
On Dec. 31, 2022, officers were dispatched to the 100 block of New Leicester Highway at around 2 a.m. to investigate reports of a shooting.
Responding Patrol officers located a gunshot wound victim in the nearby area and administered medical assistance by applying a tourniquet to his leg prior to EMS arriving. He was transported to Mission Hospital for treatment.
