More than 13,000 households around DFW are without power today, but it could be a lot worse.

Oncor officials say they were expecting the ice to cause power problems all across the metroplex. And Oncor spokesperson Andy Morgan says they were ready for a more significant icing event.

In advance of the storm, Oncor pre-positioned equipment and supplies - things like trucks, poles, transformers and wire so crews could act fast to make repairs.

Oncor personnel worked through the night and will continue restoring power this morning for customers.

"With freezing temperatures and freezing precipitation continuing this morning, remember to keep safety top of mind & check in on neighbors, friends & family" the company said on social media.

Even so, thousands of people in DFW are currently experiencing power problems. And tens of thousands of people in East Texas and the Austin area are in the dark. Some of them have been for days.

Keep in mind, Oncor crews are having to travel through some pretty hazardous conditions, which could slow down their response times.
