Mercer Area School officials announced that classes will be in session on Monday, February 20, 2023, to make up the day missed on Wednesday Feb. 1, due to threats.

Classes resumed Thursday after officials say it was determined that no credible threats to students, faculty, and staff.

Superintendent, Dr. Ronald Rowe Jr made the announcement following the cancelation of Wednesday’s classes and extracurricular activities in the district due to multiple threats that were reported within the Safe2Say Anonymous Reporting System describing a “hit list”.

In a message posted on the district’s website, Dr. Rowe said local law enforcement agencies were notified, investigated the situation, and determined that the threats were not credible.

Although school resumed, Rowe said that in addition to following safety protocol, the district has increased law enforcement in the buildings.

In addition, all middle and high school students (grades 7-12) are not permitted to carry bookbags or cinch sacks during the school day as of Thursday. Students will be permitted to bring bags to school but will be required to put them in the assigned locker during the day.
